Crouse Tops Parade Of Champions

TAMPA - East Bay Raceway Park crowned 20 track champions last weekend at its awards banquets.

If there was one performance that stood above all the others in 2007, it was Plant City's Roger Crouse winning the open-wheel modified championship, finishing second in limited late models behind champion Forrest Gough of Tampa and taking fifth in late models. David Schmauss of Tampa captured the late-model championship.

The champion of the 360 winged sprint car class was Land O' Lakes' R.J. Johnson. Gene Lasker, of Tampa, captured the limited sprint car class.

Tampa's Frank Miller won the 4-cylinder bomber championship, Chad Rose of Tampa took outlaw 4's and Seffner's Charlie Paris Jr. captured street stocks.

Rookie of the year awards went to Shane Burrows of Valrico, Buck Skinner from Plant City, Jason Pope of Thonotosassa, Dakotah Stephens of Brandon, Austin Sanders of Seffner and Ryan Mitchell of Lithia.

Kart champions included Clayton Donaldson, 8, of Mulberry; Jarrod Holle, 10, of St. Petersburg; Rebecca George, 11, of Venice; Lorenzo Capitano, 13, of Plant City; Maranda Johnson, 14, of Ruskin; Brandon Paul, 14, of Largo; Jesse Brown, 14, of Brandon; Chris Brown, 17, of Brandon; Jeannette Burnett, 28, of Riverview; Greg Reeves, 38, of Clearwater; and veteran Skip Baird, 51, of Dover.

Also, five youngsters were recognized in the rookie class: Chelsey Garrett, 6, of Largo; Anthony D'Alessio, 7, of Apollo Beach; Daniel Yoder, 7, of Sarasota; Christian Pelfrey, 8, of Plant City; and Jennifer Clarke, 8, of Ruskin.

SPEEDFEST: Lakeland's USA International Speedway will host Speedfest 2008, the North vs. South event, tonight and Saturday night. NASCAR drivers Kyle Busch and David Stremme will race against some of the top short-track drivers from around the country in the featured super late-model class.
