Raiders Deny Asking Kiffin To Resign

ALAMEDA, Calif. - The Oakland Raiders denied a report Friday that Owner Al Davis asked Coach Lane Kiffin to resign.

ESPN, citing unidentified sources, reported that Davis drew up a resignation letter for Kiffin two weeks ago, but the coach refused to sign it. Kiffin has two years left on the contract he signed last January.

"There is no issue here," Raiders senior executive John Herrera said. "There was never an issue here. There's nothing to it."

Kiffin declined to address the report when asked about it by ESPN at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

"I'm not going to comment on anything that has transpired in the past three weeks," said Kiffin, who is coaching the North team in the college all-star game.

CHARGERS: Kicker Nate Kaeding played in nearly five full games with a fractured lower left leg, including hitting four field goals in Sunday's loss to New England in the AFC Championship Game.

JAGUARS: Former Jets and Lions defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson was added to the staff. Coach Jack Del Rio said Henderson's role will be decided later.

PATRIOTS: For the second consecutive day, quarterback Tom Brady wasn't in the locker room or at practice when reporters and cameramen were allowed inside.

During the 45-minute period in the locker room, several cameramen lingered near his locker, but he didn't show up. Nor was he there for the first 12 minutes of practice that the media were allowed to watch.

New England coach Bill Belichick said reporters would be informed after practice if Brady participated. Stacey James, the Patriots' vice president of media relations, said Friday night that he had no update on Brady's status.

REDSKINS: Jim Zorn was hired as offensive coordinator, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press.

Zorn's hiring essentially assures the departure of Al Saunders, who ran the offense to mixed reviews for the last two seasons under Joe Gibbs, who retired this month.

The team is still searching for a head coach.

PRO BOWL: Safety Troy Polamalu, who was suffering from a knee sprain when the season ended, will not play. He will be replaced by the Colts' Antoine Bethea.
