CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - LaToya Pringle scored 12 of her career-high 31 points in the second overtime to help No. 3 North Carolina beat No. 4 Maryland 97-86 on Saturday.
Erlana Larkins had 25 points and 18 rebounds for the Tar Heels (18-2, 5-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who bounced back from Monday's loss at top-ranked Connecticut with a thrilling home victory against one of their toughest league rivals.
"They're my warriors," North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell said of the senior frontcourt mates Pringle and Larkins. "I just don't want to let them graduate. They really are the leaders of our team, and that's the way it should be."
Crystal Langhorne had 23 points to lead the Terrapins (22-2, 6-1), who had won 12 straight games but couldn't hold onto leads late in regulation or in the first overtime.
Pringle picked a great time to have one of the best games of her career. She made the overtime-forcing 3-point play and scored six straight points in the second OT as the Tar Heels finally pulled away. She finished 11-for-16 from the field, pulled down nine rebounds and blocked three shots in 40 minutes.
She did all that despite taking an elbow to the face midway through the second half, which left her with a bloody lip and forced her to change jerseys.
RUTGERS 63, VILLANOVA 54: Epiphanny Prince scored 19 points and Rutgers (17-2, 7-0 Big East) pulled away late to win its 12th straight game, beating visiting Villanova (12-8, 2-5).
Kia Vaughn added 16 points and eight rebounds while Matee Ajavon scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half for the Scarlet Knights, who won their 10th straight home game and 25th straight against an unranked opponent.
Laura Kurz had 15 points, Stacie Witman 14 and Lisa Karcic 11 for the Wildcats, who lost for the third time in four games and got just one offensive rebound that was credited to the team. Rutgers held a 34-20 rebounding advantage against perimeter-oriented Villanova.
Rutgers shot 50.9 percent and Villanova was at 48.9, becoming the 27th straight Rutgers opponent to shoot below 50 percent.
BAYLOR 76, NEBRASKA 56: Angela Tisdale scored 15 of her 17 points before halftime when No. 6 Baylor (18-1, 6-0 Big 12) erased an early 10-point deficit and the Lady Bears went on to beat visiting Nebraska (15-5, 4-2).
Rachel Allison led the Lady Bears with 20 points and seven rebounds. Jessica Morrow added 16 points and Danielle Wilson had 10.
STANFORD 72, CALIFORNIA 52: The most-hyped women's basketball game ever between California and Stanford played out the same way as most of the previous meetings between the Bay Area rivals: a Cardinal blowout.
Candice Wiggins scored 28 points, JJ Hones made a career-high four 3-pointers and seventh-ranked Stanford (17-3, 7-2 Pac-10) showed it won't give up its seven-year reign as Pac-10 champions easily, beating No. 8 California (17-3, 8-1).
The Cardinal avenged a home loss to Cal from a year ago and gave themselves a chance to win an eighth straight regular-season conference title.
WEST VIRGINIA 67, GEORGETOWN 35: LaQuita Owens scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help No. 12 West Virginia (16-3, 5-1 Big East) roll past visiting Georgetown (11-8, 1-5).
Ashley Powell, Liz Repellea and Olayinka Sanni scored nine points apiece to help pace the Mountaineers.
WYOMING 68, COLORADO STATE 55: Justyna Podziemska scored 16 points and Aubrey Vandiver added 14 to lead No. 18 Wyoming (18-1, 6-0 Mountain West) past host Colorado State (2-16, 0-5).
Hanna Zavecz chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds for Wyoming, winners of a school-record 12 in a row. This is the highest ranking for the Cowgirls in school history.
GEORGE WASHINGTON 76, CHARLOTTE 54: Kimberly Beck had 19 points and 11 assists and No. 20 George Washington (16-4, 4-1 Atlantic-10) snapped visiting Charlotte's seven-game winning streak (13-8, 4-1).
Sarah-Jo Lawrence added 13 points and 10 rebounds as all five George Washington starters scored in double figures.
The victory was the 498th of George Washington coach Joe McKeown's career.
TEXAS A&M 58, KANSAS 51: Takia Sparks scored 17 points and Danielle Gant added 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 21 Texas A&M (14-6, 2-4 Big 12) past host Kansas (12-7, 1-5).
Texas A&M trailed 41-39 midway through the second half before Morenike Atunrase scored six of her 12 second-half points that ignited a 15-2 run and gave the Aggies a commanding 54-43 lead.
SYRACUSE 80, ST. JOHN'S 52: Freshman guard Erica Morrow scored 10 of her 14 points in the decisive first half, classmate Marisa Gobuty had eight points in a critical early run, and No. 24 Syracuse (16-3, 4-2 Big East) celebrated its first game as a ranked team by beating visiting St. John's (10-9, 1-5).
The Orange, who entered the rankings this week for the first time since the program started 37 years ago, overcame a sloppy start and ran away from the Red Storm, who lost for the fourth straight time - all to ranked opponents.
