Former Governor Romney Is The Pro-Life Candidate

On Tuesday Florida voters will choose their presidential candidate in a winner-take-all primary.

Republican candidate Mitt Romney is the man Americans needs to lead this country. Not only is Romney a fiscal wizard; he is the only viable candidate who will defend human life and prevent massive destruction of embryos which occur in embryonic stem cell research. Our Founding Fathers had it right when they penned these words:

"We find these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among them Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."

The Founders never envisioned Americans considering something as morally indefensible as taxpayer-funded destruction of human embryos.

In August of 2001, President Bush acquiesced to the argument "the ones that would be thrown away." Six and a half years later, with more than $125 million dollars spent on stem embryonic stem cell research - there's not one success to show for it. Adult stem cells have been proven to work and do not destroy human life.

The Associated Press recently reported a company created mature human embryos from skin cells. Cloning could be just around the corner.

"Creation of the embryos - grown from cells taken from the company's chief executive and one of its investors - also offered sobering evidence that few, if any, technical barriers may remain to the creation of cloned babies," the AP reported. "That reality could prompt renewed controversy on Capitol Hill in the debate over human cloning has died down of late."

The country is going to need a leader who has the courage to deal with the moral ramifications of the evolving science, someone who cares more about the dignity of life than the biomedical industry's profits.
Mitt Romney has shown he is the right man for the task.

Take a look at his record in Massachusetts. He governed as a pro-life advocate, vetoing human cloning and embryonic stem cell research. Romney also vetoed a bill that would have lowered the age of abortion without parental consent from 18 to 16. Additionally, Romney vetoed changing the law that defines a fetus from conception to implantation.

Rudy Giuliani supports taxpayer-funded abortion and embryonic research. John McCain is on record twice for taxpayer funding of embryonic stem cell research.

Romney has shown where he stands and it's on the side of life.

Nancy Peek McGowan, a graduate of Plant High School and the University of Florida, recently was appointed by Attorney General Bill McCollum to be a commissioner on the Status of Women in Florida. She lives in Jacksonville.
