TAMPA - Preliminary numbers released by authorities Saturday night show 84 arrests during the Gasparilla parade.
Of those, 79 were for disorderly conduct and other misdemeanors, Tampa police reported. The other five were for unspecified felonies.
The numbers represent arrests made by members of the Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol. Final arrest numbers will be available Monday, Tampa police said.
Also, according to Tampa police, a 73-year-old man suffered a fatal heart attack about 10:30 a.m. at Jackson's Bistro on Harbor Island.
Police also said a woman in a group of horseback riders in the parade fell from her mount on Bayshore Boulevard. She suffered a broken ankle and was taken to a hospital.
The U.S. Coast Guard reported it fired three times at a vessel in Tampa Bay that had been ordered to stop because it had no navigation lights. When the boat fled, three "self-defense shots" were fired into its engine compartment. The boat was stopped 300 yards from the Davis Islands bridge, a spokeswoman said.
A man was arrested. His name was not available.
