Baginski Perfect In Consecutive Games

Published: January 27, 2008

NEW PORT RICHEY - Not since the late Cathy Henry was manager of Lane Glo Bowl has a bowler racked up consecutive perfect games in league play. That streak was broken by Darin Baginski on Jan. 3.

Bowling in one of his three leagues, his first of the new year, Baginski rolled consecutive 300 games.

Baginski, 32, has bowled consecutive perfect games before, but not in league play. In 1996, just out with a friends on a night of bowling, he racked up back-to-back perfect games.

"I was just fooling around that night - it wasn't league play," Baginski said.

Baginski, who has a 231 average, has flirted with the feat before. He once had a series where he bowled 277-278-289. In that series he had 36 strikes.

"I came close that night," Baginski said.

Baginski confessed he hasn't changed any of his bowling techniques nor has he changed any equipment. He still uses the same ball he has had since it was purchased used and he had it resurfaced about 18 months ago.

"It's been four or five years since I've bought a new ball," Baginski said. "I like the old stuff. I've found that when you get a brand-new bowling ball you will get some high scores for a while, but then it tails off."

A used, resurfaced ball, Baginski noted, seems to produce consistent results as long as the ball is taken care of.

"Besides, a new bowling ball, if it's decent, costs $200 or $220," Baginski said.
