BELLEVIEW - The River Ridge High girls weightlifting team qualified six lifters Saturday for the FHSAA Girls State Weightlifting Meet, which the Royal Knights will host Feb. 9.
Jessica Diaz (101 pounds) and Brianna Hooker (110) locked up the top spot in their weight classes. Natalie Marenghi (110), Danielle DiMarte (119), Stephanie Hull (169) and Megan Shaun (199) took third places to qualify for state.
River Ridge coach Mike DeGennaro said this is the most lifters from his school to qualify for the state meet.
The top three finishers in each weight class were determined in the Belleview and Bushnell sectionals.
Ridgewood's Chrystal Rose won the 139-pound class and will be joined by teammates Lauren Heymann (139) and Breanne Monaco (129). Heymann was second in her class, and Monaco was third.
Gulf's Carmen Figueroa won the 129-pound class and teammate Ashley Mizrahi was second in the 110-pound class.
Zephyrhills' Jessica Davis won the 169-pound class. Teammate Katherine Patton (183) was third.
Mitchell's Taneisha Dixon won the 119-pound class, the only lifter from her school to qualify.
Wesley Chapel did not have any lifters at the Belleview meet, but Danielle Reardon (119) was second in her class at the Bushnell meet and Brittany Phipps (154) was third.
Land O' Lakes' Morgan Keppel (101) qualified by taking third in her class. She was the only lifter from her school.
