INDIAN ROCKS BEACH - A second dog has died as a result of a fire that police say started when a despondent ex-boyfriend set himself on fire in a sport utility vehicle outside his ex-girlfriend's home.
Honey, a Labrador retriever, died Saturday at Lake Seminole Animal Hospital, said Lisa Stevenson, a nurse there.
Honey was in a Ford Explorer with another dog when John A. Paulette, 41, poured liquid on himself and on the interior of the sport utility vehicle and then set himself on fire Thursday, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office authorities have said. The other dog died in the blaze.
Paulette, 41, of Dunedin, was seriously burned in the blaze outside his ex-girlfriend's home at 468 20th Ave. He was sent to Tampa General Hospital to be treated for burns and to undergo a mental health evaluation, sheriff's authorities have said.
