LARGO - About 30 victim advocates stood in a tight-knit half-circle Sunday night, holding candles near the war memorial in Largo Central Park to pray and recommit to fighting domestic violence, a crime that claimed 11 lives in Pinellas County in 2007. One woman sang almost silently. Members of the Pinellas County Domestic Violence Task Force, and others touched by the violence, read off the names of the 11, noting that more than 20,000 calls came in to the county's domestic violence hot line last year. "This is about improving the community's response and to increase victim safety," task force chairwoman Wendy Lomas said before the 30-minute vigil. She said the calls to the hot line represent only about half of the actual domestic violence incidents that occurred here last year.
