ST. PETERSBURG - A 15-year-old boy was arrested this morning on charges he brought a loaded handgun to Gibbs High School.
Anthony Michael Lockinour, a ninth-grader, was charged with possession of a firearm on school property, said St. Petersburg Police Department spokesman Bill Proffitt.
A campus monitor spotted Lockinour and several other students congregating in a bathroom and saw Lockinour holding a .25-caliber semiautomatic pistol, Proffitt said. It turned out to be a Phoenix P-51, Proffitt said.
The monitor, Phillip Hawkins, told all the students save Lockinour to get out of the bathroom and disarmed Lockinour, Proffitt said. Lockinour tried to run, but Hawkins stopped him, Proffitt said.
The campus police officer then arrested Lockinour and seized the weapon, which was loaded with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine, Proffitt said.
Lockinour was transported to Pinellas County Juvenile Detention Center.
