TALLAHASSEE - Edward John Trombetta, who served as a top official under Gov. Reubin Askew, has died. He was 69.
Trombetta died Sunday at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a heart attack, his daughter, Molly Buehler, said.
Trombetta moved to Tallahassee in 1973 when he became the secretary of community affairs. He later became the state's secretary of commerce.
Before that, he lived in Broward County and was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1970.
Trombetta, a New York City native, moved to Florida with his family in 1947. He served in the Marine Corps and attended the University of Notre Dame.
He is survived by three children, two grandchildren, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, with burial at MeadowWood Memorial Park.
