TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Chris Lofton and JaJuan Smith got hot from the outside in plenty of time to bail No. 7 Tennessee out of serious trouble.
Lofton had five 3-pointers and 23 points and Smith added four 3s and 22 points to lead the Volunteers to a 93-86 victory against Alabama (12-9, 1-5 Southeastern Conference) on Tuesday night, averting a second upset loss in six days.
The Vols (18-2, 5-1) blew most of a 10-point lead but went 9-for-12 from 3-point range in the second half en route to victory.
WAKE FOREST 70, MIAMI 68: Ishmael Smith's jumper with three seconds left lifted host Wake Forest (13-6, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) past Miami (15-5, 2-4).
Women
W. VIRGINIA 63, RUTGERS 54: LaQuita Owens scored 23 points and No. 12 West Virginia (17-3, 6-1 Big East) used a 21-4 run in the second half to beat No. 4 Rutgers (17-3, 7-1), ending the Scarlet Knights' 12-game winning streak.
GEORGE WASHINGTON 81, DAYTON 73: Kimberly Beck scored 18 points, including 10 straight during a second-half run, to lead No. 16 George Washington (17-4, 5-1 Atlantic 10) past visiting Dayton (17-5, 3-3).
SYRACUSE 69, DEPAUL 66: Vionca Murray scored 17 points to lead No. 22 Syracuse (17-3, 5-2 Big East) past No. 23 DePaul (15-5, 4-3) in Chicago.
