Bank of America intends to scale back its work force in the Tampa Bay area by closing two call centers.
In April, the company will close its Sales Fulfillment Center at 5301 W. Idlewild Ave. in Tampa, laying off 70 workers. Two months later, the company will shut its Deposit Contact Center at 4109 Gandy Blvd. in Tampa, laying off an additional 154 employees.
The closings are part of Bank of America's plan to streamline and consolidate its call center operations, spokeswoman Britney Sheehan said. Some of the workload now handled in the Idlewild and Gandy facilities will be shifted to Bank of America call centers in Jacksonville and Arizona, and some will be moved to other call centers in the Bay area, she said.
Bank of America notified its employees about the closures in November. The company is helping workers find other jobs at Bank of America in the area, and it is helping with outplacement services for those seeking positions outside the company, Sheehan said.
"Bank of America makes a practice of recruiting top talent, and we feel strongly that through growth and attrition, we'll be able to help associates find other opportunities inside our company," she said.
The closings and layoffs are not related to the downturn in the housing and mortgage industries, Sheehan said.
