A 16-year-old Spoto High School student missing since Jan. 18, who likely ran away from her Riverview home, has been found alive on a Miami street corner, Hillsborough County deputies said today.
Marquita Shantiva Brown's mother is on her way to Miami to pick her up, deputies said.
Her mother, Betty Graves, told deputies she left for work on Jan. 18 and left her daughter at home. When she returned at day's end, her daughter was gone.
Graves learned Brown didn't go to school that day, instead going to a neighbor's home to use the phone, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office news release states. Graves told deputies the neighbor heard Brown talking to someone from the Miami area and making arrangements to travel on a Greyhound bus.
Brown's mother said the teenager has never run away, according to the release.
