TAMPA - A 24-year-old Seffner man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with a gas station robbery two weeks ago.
Decoursey Thephalus Beckles is accused of robbing the Citgo station at 11305 U.S. 92 E. in Seffner on June 16. Officials say he walked into the station and demanded money. As he left with the stolen cash, the U.S. Attorney's Office said, he fired four shots into the store ceiling.
Beckles is charged with armed robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm during the course of a crime of violence. The maximum penalty Beckles faces if convicted on the robbery charge is up to 20 years in prison.
The firearm possession charge is punishable by up to 10 years. Discharging a firearm carries a mandatory 10-year prison term and a maximum of life.
This case is being prosecuted as part the Department of Justice's "Project Safe Neighborhoods" program, a nationwide gun violence reduction initiative.
