A 28-year-old Bartow man was killed in a two-car car wreck on U.S. 98 in Polk County early this morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Joshua Lee Christiansen died in the crash around 12:40 a.m. The 2001 Dodge he was driving west on Hancock Avenue Southeast entered the intersection of U.S. 98 and collided with a Toyota driven by Mark Clayton Hollis III of Lakeland, according to an investigation report.
Hollis was traveling north on U.S. 98 south of Hancock Avenue in the left lane when his car struck the left front fender of Christiansen's vehicle, the report states.
Both vehicles spun. Christiansen's vehicle overturned on its left side and slid into the southbound lanes of U.S. 98. Christiansen's vehicle came to rest right side up in the southbound lanes of U.S. 98 facing northeast.
Christenson was ejected onto the road as his vehicle rolled. Hollis's car continued to spin as it crossed the southbound traffic lanes of U.S. 98, coming to rest in a ditch on the west side of the roadway, the report states.
Christensen died at the scene. Hollis was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
