TAMPA - TAMPA - A child found two puppies abandoned in a Clearwater parking lot Sunday afternoon.
The male puppy was fine, but a female pup was dead, having suffered head trauma, according to a spokeswoman for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Clearwater police came to the scene, 1384 Pierce St., about 12:30 p.m. Officers contacted the SPCA, which took custody of both puppies.
"I understand that the one that was alive was in great condition," SPCA spokeswoman Marissa Segundo said. "There's not a flea on it."
After being checked out by a veterinarian, that puppy likely will be up for adoption in about a week, she said.
The SPCA will analyze the dead dog's injuries, according to a written statement from Clearwater public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Daly-Watts.
Anyone with information can call Clearwater police at (727) 562-4422.
