TAMPA - Residents who pick up litter in the neighborhood, businesses that help improve the look of the community or groups that help spruce up the area are eligible for Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful anti-litter awards.
For seven years, the nonprofit organization has put out a call to county residents to nominate an individual or group who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in battling the region's litter problem.
Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful is also seeking donations for a silent auction it will hold during its awards luncheon. Money from the auction helps fund and expand programs.
Among programs sponsored by Keep Hillsborough County Beautiful are the Great American Cleanup, International Coastal Cleanup, Adopt-A-Road and Adopt-A-Shore.
Nominations for the anti-litter awards are due by July 11. To receive a nomination form or donate an item to the group's silent auction, call (813) 960-5121 or visit www.khcbonline.org.
Winners will be announced at the annual luncheon, scheduled for Aug. 8 at The Rusty Pelican in Tampa. The luncheon is sponsored by the Hillsborough County Solid Waste Department.
