TAMPA - A Tampa man was being held without bail at Orient Road Jail this morning after police said he dumped powder cocaine out of a car during a brief chase.
Demetrus Fletcher, 33, is charged with felony attempted cocaine trafficking and felony destruction of evidence, among other charges.
According to an affidavit, Fletcher met with a confidential informant about 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 4900 block of East Busch Boulevard. He had arranged to sell the informant 56 grams of cocaine for $1,800, the affidavit states.
Fletcher showed the informant the drugs but ran upon seeing Tampa police arrive, the affidavit states. He ran south on North 50th Street, where he got into a car and tossed the powdered drugs out the window, the affidavit states.
Fletcher tried to escape, but police arrested him a few moments later, the affidavit states.
