TAMPA - When firefighters entered a Lakeland home this afternoon to combat a small fire, they found a family dog unresponsive, according to a Polk County Public Safety news release.
Firefighters carried the dog outside of the home at 3204 Fletcher Ave., and Polk County EMS was able to revive the animal.
The fire was under control at 12:41 p.m., about 20 minutes after the fire was called in to Polk County Fire Rescue and Polk County EMS.
Polk County Animal Control took the dog to a veterinarian. The animal's condition wasn't immediately available.
The fire, which was in a bedroom, was caused by an electrical issue in an overhead light in a closet.
No people were injured in the fire, according to the release. The Red Cross was called to help the two adults and two children who live in the home.
