TAMPA - A man is being held at Orient Road Jail on $400,000 bail today, accused of burglarizing three Tampa businesses last year, records show.
Claudell Johnson, 40, of Tampa was arrested Tuesday in Hernando County on multiple felony warrants charging him with felony burglary and felony grand theft of a motor vehicle.
At his first appearance before Circuit Judge Walter Heinrich this morning, prosecutors called Johnson a habitual felony offender.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office accused Johnson of burglarizing three businesses in March 2007.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said reports accuse Johnson of stealing two four-wheelers and a trailer from Cox Fire Protection, 7910 Professional Place; tools including saws and screw guns from Circle L Roofing Inc. on the same block; and a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup from Moving Water Industries at 7905 Baseline Court.
Public records show Johnson has been in trouble with the law since 1986, when he received two years in a state prison for carrying a concealed firearm and failing to appear in court.
He was last released from a state prison in July 2006 after serving about two years for felony grand theft and selling an unnumbered automobile, state records show.
