Tampa Residency Could Cost Woodard Pinellas Post

ST. PETERSBURG - The next Pinellas administrator might be required to live in the county, and that could pose a problem for the husband of Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio.

Mark Woodard, an assistant county administrator in Pinellas, is among four finalists chosen by county commissioners Tuesday for the top administrative post.

Woodard and Iorio live in South Tampa.

The county has no residency requirement for the administrator's job, but that could change, said Bob Stewart, county commission chairman.

"That's an issue that has yet to be resolved," Stewart said today. "If he was the one to be selected, he'd have to deal with it. And we would have to deal with him."

Woodard was in the running for interim county administrator, a job that went to former longtime administrator Fred Marquis in September.

Woodard has been Tampa's "first gentleman" since Iorio became mayor in 2003. He is a Tampa native and a graduate of Jesuit High School and the University of South Florida.

Woodard could not be immediately reached for comment today.

He and the other three finalists, chosen from among 11 semifinalists nationwide, will have one-on-one interviews with commissioners starting later this month, Stewart said. A final selection is expected to be made in August. More than 50 people applied for the job.

The other three finalists are Bob LaSala, former Pinellas administrator; Peter Crichton, manager of Cumberland County, Maine; and Bruce Loucks, a former Charlotte County administrator.
