CINCINNATI - Closer Matt Capps will be sidelined for approximately eight weeks with a shoulder injury detected on Wednesday, the fourth Pirates pitcher to go on the disabled list in the last two weeks.
General Manager Neal Huntington said the 24-year-old closer will go on a rehabilitation program for about four weeks, then take another four weeks to get back into pitching shape.
ATHLETICS: Prized 16-year-old pitching prospect Michael Inoa agreed Wednesday to a minor-league contract with a $4.25 million signing bonus.
YANKEES: Slugger Alex Rodriguez will skip the All-Star Home Run Derby at Yankee Stadium later this month, feeling the event can have an adverse effect on a batter's mechanics.
