A suspect who bonded out of jail and never showed up for his court date in a 10-year-old crime has been located and arrested in Alaska, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
Peter Joseph Rosato has been arrested in the burglary and assault case, according to a news release.
A victim told deputies on June 24, 1998, that a man wearing a black mask entered her Dunedin home and assaulted her in a sexual manner, according to the sheriff's office.
The following day, Rosato was arrested after detectives used an artist's composite sketch to identify him as a suspect. Detectives were also able to link him to the crime using DNA evidence, authorities say.
On Sept. 2, 1998, Rosato bonded out of jail and never appeared for his scheduled court date. The victim, who was 85 at the time of the crime, has died. Her name has not been released.
Rosato was located in Anchorage, Alaska, on Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals Office. He was arrested for burglary-assault and will be extradited to Pinellas County, according to the release.
