Pasco Sheriff's deputies are investigating the theft of about 75 gallons of gasoline that were siphoned from three U-Haul trucks at a rental business in Land O' Lakes.
Sometime overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, someone stole 20 gallons of fuel from one truck, 30 gallons from another and 25 from a third, according to an investigation report.
A deputy who responded to the business at 5908 Land O' Lakes Blvd. found a small piece of garden hose near a truck, the report states. The property manager, Robert Vanduser, reported that the trucks' gas gauges were checked when they were returned.

One can get a locking gas cap for less $ than the cost of replacing a tank of gas. Then you add to that the time value lost; it's a no brainer.

Pooh...your comment on Rays well taken but in the wrong place, re: siphoning gas. Does not UHaul have a secure place for its vehicles? No locking gas caps?

The Trib isn't on the Rays' payroll like the SPTimes is. They won't stop until they have public opinion turned to their stadium.

The big Uhaul trucks have saddle tanks and do not have locking caps available but even if they did can you imagine the headaches with keys. U haul is aware of the problem and will reemburise dealers for stolen fuel. But in any case if i catch them stealing gas from my yard I will make it so they never steal from anyone again. how about a gasoline cocktail while we wait for the cops to show up,oops sorry forgot to callem

Except that it will make no difference. If the thief can't get the cap off, they drill holes in your tank or cut your fuel line. This problem is going to get worse as the price continues to climb.

Locking gas caps are useless. A thief now a days will just cut your gas line or poke a hole in your tank to get what he wants.

Yeah, locking gas caps are useless. It would take maybe an extra 2 or 3 minutes to get past that. I don't know about drilling holes into the cap. There are many ways to get around the lock.

Just a mere 8 years ago, right before the Rethuglicans infested D.C. like fleas in a flop house, The loss would have been a measly $74.25 (99.9 per gal.) But since the infestation, loss is estimated at $300.00.... Way to go folks.
