TAMPA - TAMPA - Daily parking rates at the Port of Tampa's cruise line terminal could increase from $12 to $14 for a standard space and from $24 to $28 for buses, large campers and other vehicles occupying two spaces under a proposal scheduled for a July 24 public hearing.
Eight proposed changes to tariffs that have an impact on port tenants also are on the agenda for the 10 a.m. session at Tampa Port Authority headquarters, 1101 Channelside Drive. The last increase in cruise parking - from $10 to $12 - was four years ago.
"The proposed new parking rate of $14 keeps us competitive, and in fact is lower than other Florida cruise ports," port spokesman Andy Fobes said.
Changes in the tariffs, including the change in parking lot fees, could be implemented Oct. 1 pending Tampa Port Authority commissioners' approval.
Among the proposals is a 3 percent yearly increase in dockage rates for vessels, barges and tugboats for fiscal 2009 through fiscal 2011. However, wharfage increases will not be sought. Dockage is a fee for a vessel to use a dock. Wharfage is a fee or duty paid for the privilege of using a wharf for loading or unloading goods.
"This year, we chose not to pursue significant changes, including no increases in wharfage, owing largely to the current economic conditions facing many of our customers," Fobes said.
