Here is one more theory about the Ray's magical ride in '08: the spectacles and facial expressions of Joe Maddon. Check out photos of the beloved senor, Al Lopez, as the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox manager in the '50s and '60s and maybe you will agree that there is more than a little similarity.
More importantly, it sounds like Maddon knows and practices what Tampa's first Hall of Fame member did - let the players be themselves; offer firm, quiet leadership; and seek mutual respect.
Many of us remember that Lopez died at 97 just four days after the White Sox clinched their 2005 World Series championship.
