ST. PETERSBURG - ST. PETERSBURG - The Tampa Bay Rays have gone from the basement to the penthouse, parlaying their cellar-dwelling ways into a 31/2-game lead in the American League East.
On Wednesday night, the team mounted a staggering comeback, beating the Boston Red Sox 7-6 and carrying out a three-game sweep of the second-place Bosox before a sell-out crowd.
Had the Tropicana Field cleanup crew needed any help, there were enough Rays fans toting brooms who could have answered the challenge, including Tampa's Justin Baggett. The 23-year-old sporting a blue wig, Rays jersey and a blue cape draped down his back, gushed:
"It's like living a dream."
