TAMPA - The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who killed a puppy and left the body in a Clearwater parking lot.
On Sunday afternoon, a child found the dead puppy and a live puppy in the parking lot, according to a spokeswoman for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The dead puppy had suffered multiple skull fractures, a broken jaw and lung contusions, according to a humane society news release.
"There was no evidence that the puppy was hit by a car," the release states. "Authorities believe the puppies could have been abandoned as early as 10:30 a.m. the day they were found."
Clearwater police came to the scene, 1384 Pierce St., about 12:30 p.m. Officers contacted the SPCA, which took custody of both puppies.
Those with information can call SPCA of Tampa Bay Investigator Jill Purl at (727) 586-3591, ext. 135.
