DAVENPORT - A pedestrian killed in a Polk County hit-and-run crash Wednesday has been identified, Polk County authorities said.
Deputies say Jennifer Margret Prokop, 34, of 329 Australian Way, Davenport, was killed by a red Ford Explorer on U.S. 27 that kept going after the crash, sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers said.
The SUV should have noticeable, extensive front-end damage to the hood and headlights, Rodgers said.
The Explorer is being driven by a white female with blond hair who is in her late 20s or early 30s, Rodgers said.
The incident happened about 7:45 p.m. when Prokop was walking on the grass on the east shoulder of U.S. 27 near the intersection with Polo Park Boulevard in Davenport. The Ford was northbound on the highway and had driven onto the grass to go around a tractor-trailer that was in front of it, deputies said.
The pedestrian was hit and died at the scene. The Explorer got back onto the highway, turned around and headed south on U.S. 27, deputies said.
