ST. PETERSBURG - A family of five was treated for carbon monoxide poisoning Friday morning caused by a generator in their home.
St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to 2902 Fairfield Av. and found a 13-year-old boy had been overcome and exposed to carbon monoxide fumes. There were two adults and three other children in the home.
Rescue crews discovered the family had no power because of a possible move next week. The family was using a gasoline powered generator in the living room of the home for power.
All family members were treated at the scene for carbon monoxide poisoning and transported to the hospital. The three children, an 18-year-old female, a 16-year-old boy and the 13-year-old were all in stable condition and transported to All Children's Hospital. The two adults were taken to Bayfront Medical Center.
St. Petersburg Fire Rescue Hazardous Team found high concentrations of carbon monoxide in the house. Carbon monoxide is measured in parts per million (PPM). Ranges in the bedrooms of the home were 60-70 PPM and 100 PPM is considered lethal.
The team ventilated the home with large fans and the situation is considered under control.
