OLDSMAR - An Oldsmar man was arrested for animal cruelty after Pinellas County deputies say he dangled a dog from a moving car.
A witness said Jack Q. Brown, 53, of 113 Mary Drive in Oldsmar was driving a white Chevy van eastbound on Tampa Road about 4 p.m. Thursday, deputies said.
While driving at a speed of about 45 miles per hour, deputies said Brown dangled a dog out the window. The dog, a one-and-a-half year old male bichon-yorkie mix, was on a retractable leash, the witness said.
The witness further stated he saw the dog bouncing off the roadway, off the side of the van and at one point saw the dog go underneath the van between the two left tires. Brown eventually let go of the leash and continued driving, deputies said.
The witness said he honked his horn in an effort to get the suspect to stop, but the suspect continued on. When the dog ran into nearby Canal Park, the witness caught the animal and contacted his owner through information on the dog's tag.
Owner Christina Monahan, who was listed as living at the same address as Brown, picked up her pet named Riley. Deputies later arrested Brown for felony animal cruelty.
Deputies said the dog had several scrapes and scratches.
