A 20-year-old Bradenton man was dropped off at Manatee Memorial Hospital early today with a life-threatening gunshot wound he received under mysterious circumstances, authorities said.
Wilter Dieujuste arrived at the hospital at 2:45 a.m. He was taken there by Brandon Hampton, 25, who was driving a car that had two bullet holes in it, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office news release.
According to the release:
Hampton tried to leave the hospital but was stopped in the parking lot by a deputy who was there for another call. Deputies said Hampton, who was uncooperative, and Dieujuste apparently were involved in an altercation at the Carnaval Nightclub, 5602 14th St. W. Witnesses said they had seen shots fired in the air but were unaware of anyone being hit. Dieujuste could not be questioned as he was unconscious and intubated. The emergency room physician told deputies that his injury was life-threatening as the bullet had struck a lung, and possibly the heart.
Deputies impounded the Hampton's car, which had a bullet hole on the back of the trunk lid and one on the left rear fender.
