PINELLAS PARK - A Palm Harbor man ran a stop sign this morning, lost control of his vehicle then collided with a van parked in front of a mobile home, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Both vehicles then crashed into the trailer at 6062 110th Ave. N., which shifted off its foundation during the impact, the highway patrol said.
Nicholas Ghovaee, 21, the driver of the 2004 Nissan that struck the van, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with serious injuries. Ryun Wall, 19, a passenger in the Nissan, was also taken to Bayfront Medical Center with serious injuries.
Both men were wearing seatbelts, according to a highway patrol news release.
Authorities said Ghovaee was traveling westbound on 110th Avenue North at 4:36 a.m. when he failed to notice a stop sign at 60th Street North. When Ghovaee passed the intersection, he lost control of his car, which slid sideways through the yards of two mobile homes, the highway patrol said.
The Nissan plowed into the 2004 Ford van and was partially pinned underneath it. The van came to rest inside the mobile home, the highway patrol said.
The homeowner, William "Tex" Cawley, was sleeping when the accident occurred and was not hurt. No other injuries were reported.
Ghovaee was ticketed for careless driving and failure to obey a traffic control device.
