TAMPA - A man police say never had a driver license led officers on a spirited chase that topped 100 mph and ended with him ramming a patrol car early Sunday morning.
Driving a stolen car, Javareia Stewart also had a small amount of marijuana in his pocket and is wanted on a warrant for burglary, the Tampa Police Department said.
It started when an officer saw Stewart, 18, of Tampa, driving a stolen car near Busch Boulevard about 2:30 a.m., police said.
When the officer tried to stop Stewart he sped onto Interstate 275 heading north at 110 mph to 120 mph, police said.
On Fowler, with more police giving chase, Stewart drove through parking lots. When cornered, he ran head-on into a patrol car, the arrest report states.
Stewart tried to run away after police boxed in his car. Officers found a small amount of marijuana in Stewart's pocket, police said.
The car he was driving, a 2008 Mercury, was reported stolen in Hillsborough County on June 27, police said.
Later, police found Stewart was wanted on a warrant for residential burglary issued by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office on June 9, his arrest report said.
A computer check showed Stewart never had a driver license, police said.
Among the charges Stewart faces are aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, attempting to elude, auto theft and reckless driving. He is being held at the Orient Road Jail on a bond of $48,000, jail records show.
