TAMPA - A large oak tree fell and damaged a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue engine and emergency vehicle this morning during a routine inspection, officials said.
The tree fell without warning about 8:30 a.m., fire rescue Capt. Bruce Delk said. There was no storm or wind, but the ground appeared very wet from recent storms and the tree simply uprooted, Delk said.
No one was injured during the incident at station 27, 4705 Bloomingdale Ave. Damage estimates were not available tonight.
Other fire rescue units covered for station 27 while the tree was cleared and the damaged vehicles were moved. The engine and the second vehicle has been temporarily replaced by reserve equipment, Delk said.
The units were parked outside the station during for an inspection after a shift change. During the morning "check-outs," powered equipment, such as extrication tools and chainsaws are started and medical supplies are replaced.
