SUMMERFIELD - SUMMERFIELD - Marion County Fire Rescue officials say a 9-month-old boy suffered smoke inhalation and second-degree burns on his arms and face when three other children playing with fireworks accidentally destroyed their North Florida home.
A fire rescue spokeswoman said the infant was in the bedroom with the three children - ages 7, 6 and 4 - when the fire began Saturday morning.
Authorities say the children were playing with sparklers and matches when the wood frame home in Summerfield caught fire.
The infant, whose name was not released, was flown to Shands at the University of Florida Hospital in Gainesville. Emergency Medical Services Alliance officials said the burns covered 10 percent of the infant's body.
Officials say the infant's injuries are not considered life threatening.
