TAMPA - The teen driver of a motorcycle died this afternoon, a day after he and a female passenger crashed into a truck hauling a utility trailer, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Michael A. Musto, 19, of Inverness, died today at Citrus Memorial Hospital from injuries he received during the Sunday night crash. His passenger, Amber Dye, 16, also of Inverness, died Sunday at the hospital about an hour after the wreck.
Musto and Dye were not wearing helmets, according to a highway patrol report.
The teens were riding a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle in the northbound lane of North Croft Avenue in Inverness about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Musto was speeding, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office said.
A pickup truck hauling a utility trailer and driven by Ricky A. Payne, 39, of Hernando, was traveling south on North Croft Avenue. Musto's motorcycle collided with the trailer when the truck tried to turn onto East Dawson Drive, the highway patrol said.
Musto and Dye were ejected from the Kawasaki. Payne and a passenger in a truck were not hurt.
