HUDSON - HUDSON - The Hudson Little League 11-12 all-stars captured the District 15 tournament Wednesday and will head to section play in two weeks for a chance to play for the state title.
Section play will take place at Cross Bayou, 9550 102nd Ave., in Seminole.
It's also the first district title for Hudson manager Rick Hampshire.
"I've coached other all-star teams before, but this is the first one that won," Hampshire said. This team, Hampshire suggested, had it all.
"Pitching, defense, we did everything," Hampshire said.
Sean Fluke was no fluke on the mound. He won the district title game, 5-0, over Crystal River, for his second win of the district tournament. He had 18 strikeouts in the tournament, including eight in the district championship, while pitching four innings. Fluke also had two home runs.
Also racking up wins in the district tournament was Jarred Mattos, who fanned 10 against West Hernando in the district semifinal, a close 9-8 win for Hudson.
The Hudson squad's pitching has been supported by its hitting. Mattos is averaging .700, Zack Russell is hitting .615 with a home run, Ryan Mettler had two home runs and is at .600, Ryan Hampshire is hitting .583 and Fluke .563.
