TAMPA - Hillsborough County Fire Rescue will be checking trees at fire stations to make sure they're stable after one tipped over and smashed into two trucks.
Roots from a water oak tree apparently were loosened by recent rains at Station 27, 4705 Bloomingdale Ave. The tree collapsed about 8:30 Sunday morning.
The review of the trees' stability will begin at Station 27, said Ray Yeakley, fire rescue spokesman.
One of the damaged trucks needs a new windshield, and the crew that uses it has been assigned a reserve vehicle as a temporary replacement, Yeakley said. The other truck received minor damage and has been returned to service.
At the time the tree fell, the trucks were parked outside the station for an inspection after a shift change.
