TAMPA - A man who was outside his Volvo tractor-trailer on the shoulder of Interstate 4 in Polk County was fatally struck about noon Tuesday by a passing truck, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Peter C. Rogers, 47, of Davie, had stopped his truck on the shoulder of eastbound I-4 near Mile Marker 49, the highway patrol said. Rogers was struck while near the driver's-side door by a Freightliner driven by Donald L. Bush, 46, of Largo, the highway patrol said.
Rogers was struck by the right fender and hood of the truck and was thrown to the south shoulder of the highway, according to the highway patrol.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the vehicle driven by Rogers. He was driving a Volvo tractor-trailer.
