Man Admitted To Raping Woman, Manatee Deputies Say

MANATEE — A Michigan man staying at a home in Manatee County in May was arrested and charged with rape on Tuesday after authorities say he admitted forcing a woman to have sex with him then.

Scott L. Kanouse, 37, who listed his permanent residence as Grand Haven, Mich., was jailed in Manatee County on a bond of $250,000 on a felony sexual battery charge Tuesday, according to a Manatee County arrest report.

Authorities say the victim told them that she was sleeping in her bedroom on May 12 when she awoke to find Kanouse on top of her having sex. She later sent him a text message asking him why he raped her, and he replied that he could not control his hormones, according to the arrest warrant.

With the aid of the authorities, the victim called Kanouse on the phone on May 15 and in that call Kanouse admitted he did not have the victim's permission to have sex with her, the warrant said.
