Regarding "Deputies Told To curb Fuel Use" (Metro, July 4):
If Hillsborough County Sheriff Gee is putting nonviolent crimes on the back burner, he should expect an increase in violent response.
I can see gun retailers having an exceptional summer. Criminals will be gearing up knowing they will have extra time to commit their crimes. Again, we the public are asked to bear the brunt of cutbacks. Oil prices surge through the roof and everything it affects trickles down to the consumer. I live in a community where we are already under siege by nonviolent crime and the response by police is somewhere between slow and nonexistent.
We have decided to start a community watch. With the newest cutbacks in police response, I would bet community watches will be the latest craze. Thanks to our elected officials who again leave our problems for us to solve.
