TAMPA - Police are looking for a Tampa man they say threw his 3-year-old as he ran from officers Monday night.
Two officers pulled over a red 1978 Buick Regal at North Florida and West Amelia avenues about 10:40 p.m. because it had no tag light, said Tampa Police Department spokesman William Ferguson.
Police say the driver, Shelby Pole, 41, of 2628 E. 31st Ave., got out of the car with his child in his arms and told the officers he was going to put the tot on a porch at 109 W. Amelia Ave.
As he neared the house, he threw the child on the porch and ran away, jumping several fences in the neighborhood, police said.
The child was not hurt.
Officers were able to find the child's mother, Dana Evans, and later spoke to Pole on a cell phone. Police say Pole denied he was the driver and refused to speak to officers in person.
No further information was immediately available.
