LAND O' LAKES - Sheriff's investigators are looking into what they believe are related incidents of vandalism in the Lake Padgett Estates neighborhood.
The latest to report damage is Robert Lovering, a lieutenant with the Tampa Police Department who lives in the neighborhood. Lovering told a Pasco County Sheriff's Office deputy that someone used golf balls to dent the front of his police vehicle while it was parked outside his house Sunday morning.
The deputy found six balls on the ground near Lovering's car. The deputy then interviewed neighbors about the vandalism and found additional golf balls in yards around the area.
The first report of vandalism was made to sheriff's deputies late Sunday night. Todd Anthony Thompson of 3942 Lake Joyce Drive told a deputy that something came crashing through his dining room window at about 11:20 p.m.
Thompson later found a golf ball inside his house, according to a report. He also told the deputy that about 10 minutes after the incident he saw a dark-colored Infinity Q45 pull into a driveway across then street, turn off its headlights and then drive away.
The vandalism follows the burglary of the nearby Plantation Palms Golf Club pro shop, 23253 Plantation Palms Blvd., off Collier Parkway, late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. An employee of the club estimated the value of the items taken at $10,000.
Golf balls were among the items taken.
