ZEPHYRHILLS - Charles Wares didn't think firefighters were working fast enough to save his burning home Monday night and he let them know it, according to a Pasco County sheriff's office report.
A county fire rescue captain spotted the blaze and called for units to respond. From the moment the captain arrived at 37101 State Road 54, Ware started yelling that firefighters needed to go into the house immediately or he would, the report states.
Zephyrhills firefighters arrived, and they weren't even in their protective gear before Wares began cursing them, the report says.
Told to stop interfering, Wares threw a large metal flashlight toward firefighters, according to the report. Then he picked up an ax and continued pacing in his front yard until a fire captain persuaded him to move.
But Wares continued yelling at firefighters from across the street, and challenged them to a fight, reports state. When commands to back off didn't work, reports say, a deputy pushed Wares to the ground as he approached the firefighters, and arrested him.
Wares was being held Tuesday at Land O' Lakes Jail, charged with assaulting firefighters and resisting arrest without violence. His bail was set at $500.
