Our politicians are asking us to allow offshore and wildlife refuge drilling to increase the amount of oil available and lower gas prices. These requests make a rational mind believe we must have run out of land to develop for oil. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The federal government has already leased 68 million acres to oil companies for fuel development. The oil companies are doing nothing with the land as they watch their fellow Americans struggling to pay high fuel costs while oil prices continue rising. There is no reason to believe oil companies will do anything differently with new land they're allowed to lease except to continue hoarding land as they watch their profits increase. Don't believe the allegations about other land being too expensive to explore. The oil companies can afford it!
Instead of asking our politicians to open more offshore or onshore land for drilling we should be urging them to pass legislation to require the oil companies to use the 68 million acres already leased for oil and natural gas development or give up the leases to other oil companies that are willing to do so now.
