LAND O' LAKES - A man accused of robbing a bank last week turned himself in to authorities Tuesday.
Cecil Thomas Hurley, 37, of Bayonet Point, is charged with armed robbery. Investigators said Hurley went into the SunTrust Bank at 7612 State Road 52 and handed a note to teller Christine Rogers that said, "I need $5,000 now. I have a gun."
Rogers emptied her cash drawer and gave the money to Hurley, according to a complaint affidavit. Investigators haven't said how much money was stolen. Detectives placed surveillance photos in the St. Petersburg Times and asked anyone with information to contact them.
Two days later, Hurley's mother called investigators and told them her son was the one in the photos. Rogers also picked Hurley out of a collection of photos.
Hurley's pickup, which had been reported stolen, was found July 4. Inside was the note that had been handed to Rogers, police said.
Hurley remains in the Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $50,000.
