Cypress, No. 6, Par 3
With three separate nines, Emerald Greens, located in Carrollwood Village, has a lot of good golf holes to choose from. One of its best is a reminder that the game's fairest challenges often come from old-school basics.
Playing between 186 and 125 yards, depending on the tee box, the hole does not have water, bulkheads, caverns or rock piles. Its challenges are obvious and fair.
Three bunkers protect the green: front, left and right. With the putting surface slightly elevated, only the front half of the green is visible from the tee box. Although golfers have a big target - 40 yards deep - the back half of the green slopes away from the tee, creating the possibility of some interesting putts.
A number of different shots can find the green, and a variety of pin placements can factor tremendously into club selection.
