Why are there no stories about home insurance in places other than Florida? Factual stories appear about the financial failure of some companies, claims filed for several years after hurricanes, state liability through its intermediary, Citizens, and legal filings against Allstate. Ironically, not one word about insurance in California, Missouri or anywhere outside of Florida.
Year after year, mudslides and fires ravage the West and floods wash away homes and crops. How is it that families in Iowa or California get insurance? Are these same companies canceling all of their policies in those states? Are there other insurance crises?
Some stories even mock Florida owners for building on barrier islands or in so-called hurricane-prone areas. What about the wisdom of building on earthquake faults, hillsides and areas flooded by rivers or in wildfire-prone areas such as Big Sur?
